Hi SFXD,

Salesforce wants to change its cert system and is asking for feedback.

From the turn of the questions it's rather evident IMO that they're reinventing the wheel, so whether you think certs are good bad or useless, I'd advise answering this to make sure they get various points of view.

Next ARN in two weeks or so.

I was going to post about the ARN, but it'll have to wait a day or two more.

Someone at IQRA technologies decided to not only shill here a while back, but now they've added an entire page to my wiki shilling their services. Screenshot for evidence.

As such I have created this beautiful wiki page https://wiki.sfxd.org/books/shills-and-scammers/page/unauthorized-backlink-attempt-by-iqra-technologies and refreshed indexing. I have obviously deleted the original page.

Say goodbye to Chat! On May 3, 2024 Salesforce announced the beginning of the End of Life process for our Legacy Chat solution (formerly known as Live Agent)!

Our legacy Chat has served us well over the past 16 years, but with Messaging for In-App and Web at substantial functional parity with the Messaging for In-App and Web RestAPI coming in July 2024 it's time for Chat to ride off into the sunset.

Here are the key dates to be aware of:

  • Legacy Chat End of Life Date - February 14, 2026

We have prepared a number of resources for migration from Chat to Messaging for In-App and Web that you can access through our the retirement article!

Happy new year to all of y'all SFXD Members.

We'll do a survey soon(tm) so we can survey how we've evolved in the past years it's taking time because I'm trying to do stupid shit with data cloud just so I can justify it as a learning experience.

as for the rest, 2023 has been a weird year in the Tech space, what with AI being everpresent for us - but not for most companies, please remember that a lot of comps aren't even online yet and that the Salesforce communication space is a very rich bubble but a bubble nonetheless - Salesforce layoffs, and the job market being really changed by the aforementionned things. It, as always, also marks another year of Salesforce Product Managers not listening to one another, random Influencers shipping stuff they do as if it was impressive so you can fawn about them, and another year of releases that make it very obvious that there is no global product direct. it's also, on a more positive note, a year that has seen better communication from the Developer Relations team on what they expect good code to look like, the Architect Relation team on how to apply best practices in your org, and in general I feel, a better feel for what "'Salesforce can be" for most companies. on a pure product space it's been the year of Data cloud due to its ability to handle multiple database types and various workloads related to unstructured data, as well as a high APEX-ification fo Flows, which can be either a good or a bad thing. So a rich year with tons of stuff to learn, remember, adapt to, or have fun with.

To sign off, I'd like to quote someone, because normally I don't do so, but I feel they have captured my feelings about tech lately very well, even though they had nothing to do with the medium. Bill Watterson, relatively famous in the US, wrote:

“Creating a life that reflects your values and satisfies your soul is a rare achievement. In a culture that relentlessly promotes avarice and excess as the good life, a person happy doing his own work is usually considered an eccentric, if not a subversive. Ambition is only understood if it’s to rise to the top of some imaginary ladder of success. Someone who takes an undemanding job because it affords him the time to pursue other interests and activities is considered a flake. A person who abandons a career in order to stay home and raise children is considered not to be living up to his potential — as if a job title and salary are the sole measure of human worth.

You’ll be told in a hundred ways, some subtle and some not, to keep climbing, and never be satisfied with where you are, who you are, and what you’re doing. There are a million ways to sell yourself out, and I guarantee you’ll hear about them.

To invent your own life’s meaning is not easy, but it’s still allowed, and I think you’ll be happier for the trouble.”

And I feel that in our space, that encourages sacrificing your personal life for Salesforce Saturdays, that forces continuous learning for ancients, that forces juniors to learn what is now the basesof IT in general as well as Database Management and basic Algorythmy to be good at this job, where stakeholders all want a piece of you - it's a needed reminder.

Do what you need to, commit as much as you feel you can or want to, but please do remember to slow down sometimes, reevaluate your needs and wants, and your priorities - and remember to be happy.

Love from SFXD, and a merry 2024. May you all find balance in work, joy in your personal life, and fun in whatever challenges you either come up with or get thrown at ya.
